Lip injections with fillers like JUVÉDERM® are popular at my Orlando practice with people of all ages. They are an easy way to plump your pout and rejuvenate your face—all without the need for plastic surgery. Even though the results don’t last forever, getting lip fillers is still a big decision. If you’re looking into lip fillers and thinking of booking your first appointment, here are a few important things you need to know.
How Do Lip Injections Work?
Some people have naturally thin lips, and most people will experience lips getting thinner and more wrinkled with age. Lip injections correct all these issues by using dermal fillers to add the desired volume and shape to the upper lip, lower lip, or both. Most fillers are made with hyaluronic acid (HA), an active ingredient that binds to the water within your skin to add youthful volume to the face. By tapping into this moisture and hydrating the underlying tissue, HA gives the lips a subtle, natural-looking boost.
At our practice, we commonly use JUVÉDERM® for lip augmentation treatments. This popular filler is HA-based and used by celebrities such as Kylie Jenner.
What Happens During a Lip Filler Appointment?
On the day of your appointment, arrive fresh-faced and refrain from wearing any makeup. Your provider will then lead you into the treatment room, mark your face, and begin a series of injections. Using a very fine needle, they will inject the gel-like filler into the target areas on your lips. Any discomfort can be managed with the help of a numbing agent or by applying an ice pack after the procedure.
Most lip filler appointments typically take around 15 to 20 minutes. You can return home immediately after treatment.
Lip Filler Tips & Tricks
- Start Small: When it comes to fillers, it’s much easier to add than to subtract. When first starting lip injections, consider beginning with a small amount of filler while you adjust to your new look. If you enjoy your results, you can add more filler at your next appointment.
- Swollen Lips? That’s Normal: Your lips may look very puffy and swollen the first few days after your lip filler treatment. Don’t panic—this response is natural and the puffiness will fade over time. Your final results should be visible after 3 to 5 days.
- Results Aren’t Permanent: Dermal fillers are a nonsurgical treatment and the results don’t last forever. Fillers are absorbed by the body over time. Touch-up treatments can help you maintain your results, and many patients come in every 3 to 4 months.
Lip injections are a fun, easy way to give a feminine boost to your appearance. By knowing more about what to expect from the lip filler process, you can head into your first appointment with confidence.
