Full Tummy Tuck

The full tummy tuck, also called a traditional or complete tummy tuck, is best for most patients because it renews the appearance of the entire front of the abdomen; however, individual needs vary. Dr. Soto frequently performs the following tummy tuck techniques at his Orlando practice, personalizing each procedure to the patient’s concerns and anatomy.

The full tummy tuck provides Dr. Soto with unobstructed access to the front of the abdomen, allowing him to remove excess skin, repair muscle anatomy, reshape the belly button, and eliminate excess fat. He may also use liposuction to add the “finishing touches” to your silhouette.

A full tummy tuck begins with a hip-to-hip incision just above the pubic area. A second incision encircles the belly button. The resulting low, horizontal scar gently curves with the body and can be hidden when wearing most undergarments and two-piece bathing suits. The second scar is concealed within the opening of the belly button.

This less invasive alternative to the traditional technique, also known as a “Brazilian tummy tuck,” removes loose abdominal skin below the belly button. You can add liposuction to remove excess fat.

The mini tummy tuck involves a 3- to 6-inch, horizontal incision, shorter than the full tummy tuck, centered over the pubic bone. This technique does not reshape the belly button, so no second incision is needed. The resulting scar is low and easily covered by clothing.

  • Develop your personalized treatment plan: Your surgeon will evaluate excess skin, abdominal muscle laxity, and overall appearance before recommending the appropriate tummy tuck technique.
  • Prepare for Surgery: Follow your surgical team’s instructions regarding medications and supplements to avoid. You may be asked to quit smoking or undergo specific medical tests prior to your surgery.
  • Plan for your recovery: Prepare a comfortable recovery space and arrange for someone to help you with everyday tasks and activities.

4.

What to Expect On the Day of Tummy Tuck Surgery

A tummy tuck is performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure at our state-of-the-art surgical facility in Orlando, FL. Dr. Soto will make an incision along the bikini line to trim any excess skin and fat. The abdominal muscles may also be tightened. The remaining tissue will then be tightly pulled over the abdominal muscles and sutured shut.

Occasionally, more complex cases may require an overnight stay. As with any other surgery, a tummy tuck involves risks that are affected by your state of health. Discuss any health conditions with Dr. Soto before surgery.

Combining My Tummy Tuck with Other Procedures

Some patients may benefit from combining abdominoplasty with additional cosmetic procedures. Combining treatments can provide more comprehensive body contouring by addressing multiple areas in a single surgery.

Liposuction can be performed on areas such as the upper arms, flanks, thighs, and chest to complement the new, flatter appearance of your stomach.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

Your Guide to Post-Tummy Tuck Care

After surgery, you will be prescribed pain medication, and you will have to wear a compression garment. Very early after surgery, patients are encouraged to move around to improve circulation and reduce the risk of blood clot complications. Full recovery may take up to 6 weeks, although you can see your body’s shape gradually changing within a few days of surgery.

5 Tips for Recovery From

Tummy Tuck

Recovering from a tummy tuck takes time and patience. Following these tips can help support healing and make your recovery go as smoothly as possible.

1.

Follow your surgeon’s instructions: Follow all guidance regarding wound care, medications, compression garments, activity, and follow-up appointments.

2.

Make Sure to Walk: Gentle walking is typically encouraged after surgery to help promote circulation and reduce the risk of blood clots. Start slowly and increase your activity only as your surgeon recommends.

3.

Avoid strenuous activity: Your abdominal tissues will need time to heal. Avoid heavy lifting, vigorous exercise, and movements that strain your abdominal muscles.

4.

Wear your compression garment: If your surgeon requires it, follow their instructions. It can help support the healing tissues and manage postoperative swelling.

5.

Be patient with your results: Your abdomen will gradually settle as healing progresses, and your final results may take several months to develop fully. Attend your follow-up appointments and be patient.
