Intense Pulsed Light (IPL)

IPL, also called a “photofacial”, uses high-intensity pulses of visible light to penetrate deep into the skin to treat a variety of skin issues, such as melasma, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, age spots and broken capillaries. It can also be used on the hands, neck and chest. IPL is a non-invasive and non-ablative treatment.

During the procedure, a cool gel is applied to the treatment area and the patient wears dark glasses are worn to protect their eyes from the light emitted from the device. The IPL hand piece is gently applied to the skin and light pulses are applied over the treatment area. The entire procedure generally takes 15-30 minutes.

  • Ideal Candidates

IPL is ideal for a patient with light skin who has sun damage, broken capillaries and acne and age scars.

  • Recovery

There is no downtime with IPL, though a series of 3-6 treatments (usually a month apart) is often recommended to achieve desired results.
