Forehead Lift

Introduction

The concept for the forehead or brow lift is to reposition the eyebrows in a more aesthetically ideal position, relieving the hooding of the upper eyelids and improving the wrinkles in the forehead. The procedure also removes or weakens the muscles of frowning, which produce the vertical lines we see between our eyebrow, sometimes called the “11’s,”. Dr. Soto can also weaken the frontalis muscle to soften some of the horizontal lines as well. Of course, a temporary way to do this is with BOTOX. For those in need of a permanent solution, however, a surgical forehead lift is the only way to accomplish this.

Ideal Candidates

Healthy men and women who experience bothersome brow drooping and forehead wrinkling are appropriate for this procedure.

How It's Done

A brow lift may be performed in one of two ways: either through the use of an endoscope (surgical video device) and special instruments placed through small incisions made within the hairline, or through incisions in the scalp, called a Coronal or open lift. Both allow the tissue and muscle beneath the skin to be repositioned to correct the visible creases and furrows in your forehead. The endoscopic technique may be done in conjunction with incisions hidden within the natural crease of the upper eyelids to eliminate frown lines between the brows, on or above the bridge of the nose. Dr. Soto will discuss the best solution for you at your consultation. Both procedures are performed in his onsite surgical suite under general anesthesia.

Recovery

Recovery from an endoscopic brow lift is generally faster than a coronal lift, as the incisions are smaller. When your procedure is completed, your forehead may be taped and your head may be loosely wrapped to minimize swelling and bruising. A thin tube may be present to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect under the skin.
