BrowLift (Forehead Lift)

Introduction

While the cause may not always be obvious, many people know that as they have aged, the appearance of their upper face and eye region has changed, making them look tired, sad, or angry. Often this is caused by a sagging of the eyebrow region caused by the effects of gravity and muscular pull over many years, and can be beautifully reversed through modern forehead lifting techniques.

Several techniques are available, depending on your examination, goals, and desired experience. Dr. Soto will discuss the options with you and help you determine the best option for you. Commonly, Dr. Soto will recommend that any necessary rejuvenation of the eyelids be performed concurrent with a forehead lift.

Ideal Candidates

You should be healthy enough to have surgery, and have the support and time necessary to recover from the procedure.

How It's Done

Forehead lifting is performed under sedation or general anesthesia on an outpatient basis in Dr. Soto’s onsite accredited surgical suite. The technique may involve small incisions behind the hairline in the temple area, with or without the addition of small incisions in the upper forehead area (again behind the hairline), and with or without the use of an endoscope (a specialized telescope for visualization of the surgical field without creation of a larger incision).

The area of brow descent is freed and the brow elevated and secured with sutures or a small screw, which is later removed in the office. The incisions are then closed with delicate sutures or staples and a small amount of antibiotic ointment applied.

Recovery

Most patients experience minor swelling and minimal bruising. Pain is minor and usually requires pain medication for 2-3 days. Activity is restricted for 2 weeks, with showering allowed the day after surgery and driving once off of pain medication.
